Tina Gibson on her epic poem, Misfit Island: “I have always wanted to write a book about the struggles young women go through—the stresses, pressures, and expectations that we face growing up in modern-day society. I created Signa the swan as a strong female character who goes through a coming-of-age journey. She had the opportunity to be the hero, but doesn’t take it. I never intended for her to be the hero. She’s the Almost Hero.”
